Disappointing My Boyfriend
I looked at her lips as she spoke and noticed that the water from the hot tub was leaving small beads of water on her face.
Immediately I became aware of an urge to gently kiss and lick them away.
I hadn’t known her for long, but recognised that she was more relaxed than she usually was. Perhaps it was the vodka cruiser that helped put her at ease. There were four of us in the spa; my new boyfriend, his best friend and his friend’s girlfriend.
It was her who I was admiring.
As the evening grew late and the drinks flowed, I noticed that her leg was resting against mine underneath the water, neither of us making the choice to move our legs away. I appreciated the intention of our touch. Surely my new boyfriend wouldn’t mind? He was right there after all.
Before long we were giggling. My conversation with her had turned increasingly sexual and we were now moving our bodies to the tracks of the newly released Ministry of Sound 2005 soundtrack. As I swirled around in the water, I caught a glimpse of my boyfriend and noticed that he didn’t seem to be finding our behaviour cute. He looked uncomfortable as he pulled me onto his lap and affectionally kissed me.
The kiss felt more like an intentional interruption to my growing and flirtatious energy. We hadn’t been together for long, and had never navigated a disagreement before, but I felt that tonight might be our first opportunity to do so.
It wasn’t long until her and I were both back in the middle of the hot tub again. This time, our arms were embracing as we danced. It felt innocent and fun. I felt safe. Her boyfriend watched us with a smile impossible to disguise.
I was aware that we were playing to the male gaze that was surrounding us, but this didn’t matter to me. The truth was that I would have been drawn to her whether our boyfriends were there or not.
“Should we kiss?” I confidently asked her. Our lips were almost touching. She looked back at me with alive eyes. Would this kiss with me be her first kiss with a woman?
“Ok girls, that’s enough.” My boyfriend sternly said as he got out of the spa.
